CO2 Sensor
Two 200 litre sealed CO2 Sensors have been designed and constructed to measures changes in atmospheric carbon dioxide levels before, during and following nucleation (Figures 1 & 2).
Initial runs of the CO2 sensor have indicated that draw-down from the atmosphere occurs soon after nucleation (approximately 85% within the first hour) and plateaus at approximately 90% of pre-nucleation level. If consistent it suggests that there should be no environmental concerns over runaway CO2 drawdown. Initial tests also indicate that an elevated CO2 level in the overlying atmosphere causes greater CO2 draw-down.
The CO2 Sensor testing results are ongoing with further development and testing in progress, including the injection of "marked" CO2 into the system.
Prototype runs have indicated sharp declines after nucleation; however the system requires further fine tuning and calibration so that performance can be recorded under a range of conditions.
