Blue columns show observed annual changes in global atmospheric CO2 concentrations; 5-year
means of these changes are shown for two different measurement
programmes as thick black and thin red lines; the upper black line
shows the annual increases that would have resulted if 100% of fossil
fuel emissions stayed in the atmosphere.
